The walkthrough

Everything your group needs, start to finish.

From setting up your treasury to printing the monthly report — here’s how Pass the Basket works, in plain language. Skip around with the menu, or read straight through.

01

Start your group

Setup is five quick choices and takes about a minute. From the Start free button you'll:

  1. 1Pick your fellowship — AA, NA, or another. Your categories and service structure come pre-set to match.
  2. 2Name your group and choose a monogram. It shows on your dashboard, your report, and your app icon.
  3. 3Choose a skin — the look of your treasury. You can change it any time.
  4. 4Set your opening balance — what’s in the basket today.
  5. 5Enter your email and tap Create my group. We email you a one-tap sign-in link.
02

Signing in

There are no passwords to manage. Signing in is a single tap on a link we email you.

  1. 1Go to Sign in and enter your group email.
  2. 2Open the email and tap the link. It signs you in on that device and drops you straight onto your group’s dashboard.
  3. 3Because it’s tied to your email, the basket-passer’s phone and the treasurer’s laptop can both stay signed in.
The email can take a minute and may land in spam. Each link is single-use — request a fresh one whenever you need.
03

The dashboard

Your home screen. The number that matters, right at the top.

  • Balance on hand — your current total, updated the instant you record anything.
  • Recent activity — the latest deposits and expenses at a glance.
  • The top bar — Home, Ledger, Meetings, Report, Distribute, Skins — is how you move around the app.
04

Recording the 7th Tradition

The thing you’ll do most: log what came in and what went out.

  1. 1Open Ledger.
  2. 2Record a deposit for the basket — your fellowship’s collection, like the 7th Tradition — or an expense for rent, coffee, literature, and the rest.
  3. 3Pick a category, enter the amount and an optional note, set the date, and save. The balance updates immediately.
We record amounts, dates, and categories — never member names. Anonymity is the default, not a setting.
05

Your meeting schedule

Keep your group’s when-and-where in one place.

  • Set your meeting location and weekly schedule.
  • Note cancellations — holidays, weather — so the record stays accurate.
06

The monthly Treasurer's Report

Hand the business meeting a clean statement — no spreadsheet wrangling.

  1. 1Open Report and pick the month.
  2. 2Review the statement of accounts: opening balance, income, expenses, and what’s left.
  3. 3Print it — or save as PDF — straight from your browser for the meeting.
07

Distributing surplus

When your prudent reserve is met, pass the surplus on. Your fellowship's suggested split is built in.

  • For AA, the suggested plan is 50% Intergroup, 30% GSO (AAWS), 10% District, 10% Area.
  • Distribute shows the amount for each service entity, so you know exactly what checks to write.
  • Every split is a suggestion. Your group decides the real amounts by group conscience — edit them freely. (NA, for one, publishes no fixed percentages.)
The amounts are yours to set. The tool does the arithmetic; your group’s conscience makes the call.
08

Changing your skin

Your treasury, dressed how your group likes — from a formal statement of accounts to a punk flyer.

  • Open Skins and pick from the full set. The change is instant and affects only your group.
  • The ledger works identically under every skin — it’s purely the look.
  • Want to browse first? The Skins gallery shows every option.
09

Bringing over past records

Already keep a spreadsheet? Bring its history with you.

  1. 1Export your existing records to CSV or Excel with columns for date, deposit/expense, category, and notes.
  2. 2During signup we check the file and tell you how many entries we found.
  3. 3After you sign in, open Import to bring the rows into your ledger.
Nothing imports until you confirm — you always see a preview first.
10

Installing on your phone

Put the treasury one tap away — no app store required.

  1. 1Open your group in your phone’s browser.
  2. 2Use Add to Home Screen.
  3. 3It installs with your group’s themed icon and opens full-screen, just like a native app.
11

Your account, privacy & data

It's a tool, not a trap.

  • Privacy — amounts and dates, never names. Your group’s anonymity is the whole point.
  • Your data is yours — export the full ledger to CSV any time. No lock-in, ever.
  • Cost — none. Pass the Basket is free for every group; hosting is covered by voluntary donations, never by your group.
Ready when you are

Set your group up in about a minute.

Free, permanently. No card, and nothing to cancel.
